The agitating SSA non-teaching staff on Tuesday rejected the appeal made by Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma to call off their indefinite sit-in-demonstration on the ground that their demands are yet to be addressed by the state government.
The All Meghalaya SSA Non Teaching Staffs Association (AMSSANTSA) will begin its indefinite sit-in-demonstration from July 31, demanding the state government to enhance the salary of the non-teaching staff.
It is noteworthy that the issue of artificial flooding in Rukminigaon and places in Guwahati city has multiple causes, including rapid encroachment along riverbanks, reducing the water-carrying capacity of rivers like the Bahini-Bharalu, an unscientific and inadequate drainage system unable to handle heavy rainfall, and clogged drains leading to water accumulation, to mention a few.
