Following alleged harassment by Meghalaya Police against oil tanker drivers along the National Highway in Ri-Bhoi district, the North East Petroleum Mazdoor Union (NEPMU) has decided to halt the supply of IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL petroleum products to Meghalaya starting from November 29, 2023 (Wednesday).
In the wake of the arrest made by the East Khasi Hills Police on October 31, the Ri Bhoi Police has also taken action by filing a suo-moto case against Bless Dkhar, a leader of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF). He stands accused of extorting money from trucks operating on the Umiam-Damsite Bridge.
Ri Bhoi District Police conducted a Naka after receiving information from reliable sources at the Kyrdeng Police checkpoint and detained one LMV B/R No. AS01DT 7519, which was driven by Vinod Kumar Sharma of Jaipur and one occupant, Lalshyam Sharma of Rajasthan.
