According to the FIR, the manager of the petrol pump was preparing to open the station when the incident happened. The robbers forcibly restrained the manager and several employees, tied their hands and feet before proceeding to loot the establishment.
District police chief, Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, informed that at around 4.30 PM information was received from a truck driver that a 4-member gang of highway robbers were restraining and beating truck drivers and extorting money from them, at Umtrew.
