Acting on specific intelligence inputs, vigilant troops of the 144th Battalion foiled a smuggling attempt and seized a sugar-laden vehicle (a white Eco Van).
The BSF Meghalaya troops on Monday had successfully intercepted four vehicles carrying a large quantity of sugar intended for smuggling into Bangladesh near the Tri-Junction at Shnongpdeng, in the border area under East Khasi Hills district, Meghalaya.
The entry of narcotic substances from across the border and the smuggling out of sugar from this side are two burning issues expected to be raised during this week’s four-day bilateral conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) taking place here in Shillong, from today.
