Addressing the media this afternoon, Debbarma thanked student organisation viz., TISF, TSF, NSUI and TYF and Bengali scholars for supporting the cause of Roman script for Kokborok. He also expressed his regret for disturbing normal life by calling the protest.

The first day of the indefinite protest by the Tipra Indigenous Students Federation (TISF), concluded peacefully on Monday, with no untoward incidents reported till 5 pm.

Ahead of crucial talks with the Opposition TIPRA Motha and other stakeholders on their grievances and demands, AK Mishra, the Advisor to Ministry of Home Affairs on Northeast affairs, arrived in Agartala and met Tripura chief minister Manik Saha on Monday.

In a significant development just days ahead of the crucial by-elections in two constituencies in Tripura, the main Opposition party, TIPRA Motha, has announced its decision to remain neutral and neither support ruling BJP or opposition CPI-M candidate.

Sources said the meeting assumed political significance as the CPI(M) had recently held discussions with the regional party and sought its support for the bypolls to the Dhanpur and Boxanagar seats in Sepahijala.
