The art of weaving a dress using the bark of a tree and worn by ancient Garos, when they came down from Tibet and settled in the hills of now Garo Hills, was once confined to the pages of history as modernization took over and some of the age old practices became extinct.
The beaches of Baghmara town in South Garo Hills came alive with traditional beats at this year's two-day Tyisam Festival which kicked off on Wednesday at the Simsang Golden Beach, drawing record crowds from across the region.
The festival, named "Tyisam," holds cultural significance as it translates to "by the river side" in the language of the Atong sub-tribe of the Garo people.
