SHILLONG, JULY 2: The Jaintia Students Movement (JSM) on Friday served a five-day ultimatum to the state government to enhance the salary of the adhoc school teachers failing which they will call for a 12-hour protest in two districts of Jaintia Hills.

In a statement, JSM president Leningstar Rymbai said that the organization will be compelled to call for a protest in the entire Jaintia Hills region from 5 am to 5pm of July 8, if the government continues to be adamant towards the demand of the adhoc teachers.

The teachers under the banner of the FASTOM are staging their ongoing indefinite sit-in-demonstration to protest against the government’s delay to enhance their salary by Rs 18,000 and 5% yearly increment.

The JSM expressed its solidarity with the adhoc teachers who are compelled to sit, eat and sleep in the open air in Shillong demanding for their legitimate rights, Rymbai said.
