Every year, Teachers Day is celebrated on September 5 to honour the hard work and commitment of all the teachers.
It must be noted that on Monday (Sep 4), a day before Teachers Day, the All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers’ Association (AMPSTA) organised a protest rally in Shillong to demand from the government that it revive the Old Pension Scheme, which has been suspended since April 2010. Teachers also demanded payment of the fourth installment of 25 percent revised pay for deficit teachers, a regular monthly salary for the deficit school teachers, and quality education.
September 5th is the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a renowned philosopher and the second President of India. He believed in the importance of education and dedicated his life to promoting it. His birthday was chosen as Teachers Day to pay tribute to his significant contributions to the field of education in the country.
