Shillong, Mar 22: Teachers under the banner of the Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) on Tuesday intensified their agitation by hitting the streets to pressure the government to fulfill their demands of enhancement of their salary and upgrade services of adhoc teachers to deficit system. To add more pressure on the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, the Federation has also decided to hold an indefinite sit-in-protest in front of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE)’s office from Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters after the peaceful rally from Raj Bhavan to Malki playground, FASTOM EC member and the Khasi Jaintia Hills Adhoc School Teachers’ Association (KJHASTA) president Mayborn Lyngdoh said the objective of the rally was to send a clear message to the government that Monday’s general meeting is not over yet.
“We have decided to intensify our agitation by holding sit-in-protest in front of the MBoSE office from 11 am to 3 pm every day. Five teachers will be sitting there rotationally. This is because we do not want to disturb the board exams,” he said.
