Tura, April 16: Tragedy has struck a family in Tura after their 17 year old son who went to cool himself by the riverside at Sela Wari, near Tura, was carried away by the water currents and drowned on Sunday afternoon.

The teenager, aged only 17 years, has been identified as Ezekial Ch Marak, belonging to Dobasipara locality in Tura.

He had visited Sela Wari with other friends to relax since it was a Sunday and the heat in town was unbearable.

Entire Garo Hills is going through one of the hottest days of the season with a heat sweeping the region since more than two weeks.

The victim was cooling himself in the water when tragedy struck and he got carried away by the currents.

For past few weeks, large groups of people from Tura have been heading to the riverside to escape the summer heat.
