Tension in Dhalai district in Tripura

Agartala, July 13: Prohibitory orders were imposed and mobile internet service was suspended in Dhalai district following the death of a tribal youth in a group clash in Tripura’s Dhalai district.

According to reports, in a clash between two groups, a 19-year-old college student sustained serious injuries on July 7 and he was admitted at GBP Hospital and the student passed away on Friday.

The clash took place between two groups at Gandatwisa in the Dhalai district of Tripura.

Additional police personnel have been deployed in the village after Friday’s arson and Internet services have been suspended in the area.

“On July 7, Parmeshwar Reang accompanied by his friend visited the Gandatwisa market to attend a fair organised on the occasion of Rath Yatra. Suddenly, an altercation started between the two groups which started in a clash and during that clash, Parmeshwar Reang sustained serious injuries. He was admitted to a hospital where he was undergoing treatment but on July 12, he died during his treatment,” said a police official.

“We have arrested four persons in connection with the murder. Prohibitory orders have been enforced in Gandatwisa with heightened police presence to prevent further escalation,” he said.

Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma condemned the youth’s murder and called for justice.
