Agartala, April 7: Tension gripped a border village in South Tripura district on Monday after locals discovered a suspected drone, believed to have originated from Bangladesh, inside Indian territory.
The drone was found in a paddy field near Ballamukha village under the Bilonia subdivision. The spot lies approximately 300 meters inside the Indian side of the Indo-Bangladesh border, beyond the barbed wire fencing. A local farmer was the first to spot the device and immediately alerted the police.
Residents of Ballamukha claimed they had seen a drone flying in the area over the past few days, seemingly coming from the Bangladesh side and hovering as if conducting an aerial survey. They suspect the recovered device may be the same one observed earlier.

Upon receiving the information, a police team rushed to the location and seized the drone. An investigation has been jointly launched by the Tripura Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) to determine the drone’s origin and its intended purpose, particularly given the sensitivity of the border zone.
Tripura shares an 857-kilometre stretch of the 4,096.7-kilometre-long India-Bangladesh border. While over 97 percent of Tripura’s international boundary is fenced, concerns over cross-border surveillance and breaches remain.
Authorities are currently analysing the drone’s contents and flight data, if retrievable, to assess whether it poses any security threat.
