Shillong, April 22: A deadly terror attack on Tuesday at the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in South Kashmir has left at least 28 people dead, including several foreign tourists.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah acknowledged the gravity of the attack, stating that the official death toll would be confirmed and announced at a later time. In a statement on X, Abdullah described the attack as being “much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years,” underscoring its scale and impact.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing outrage over the attack. Modi condemned the terror strike on tourists and vowed that those responsible for the heinous act would be held accountable. “The perpetrators of this attack will be brought to justice,” Modi stated.

Following the attack, Prime Minister Modi held a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, directing him to take all necessary measures in response to the incident.

In the wake of the attack, Shah immediately departed for Srinagar to hold an urgent security review meeting with key agencies and security forces.
