Agartala, Nov 24: Hundreds of Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) qualifiers from 2022 staged a protest outside the residence of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, demanding immediate recruitment into government schools.
Chanting slogans against the government for delaying appointments, the demonstrators highlighted their grievances, accusing the state of ignoring their plight despite a critical shortage of teachers in schools.
The protest escalated as aspirants surrounded the CM’s residence, prompting swift police intervention. The protesters were detained, and the area was cleared.
Aspirants questioned why recruitment has not been initiated despite fulfilling all eligibility criteria. “Since 2022, we have repeatedly sought appointments with the Chief Minister to address our concerns, but we have never been granted a meeting. The state government continues to ignore our plight,” one protester said.
They also voiced fears that delays would disqualify many candidates who are nearing the upper age limit for government jobs, effectively nullifying their achievement of clearing the TET.
In 2022, around 40,000 candidates appeared for the TET, but only 261 passed. Despite this, no appointments have been made, exacerbating the teacher shortage and further impacting the state’s education system.
