Jowai, July 2: Niamtre faithful from the seven localities of Raij Jowai on Tuesday celebrated the third day of the annual Behdieñkhlam festival at Loompyrdi Iongpiah, Jowai.
Men, women and children dressed in their finest attires, danced to the tune of the Bom (drum), flute and bugle etc. as they moved from Loompyrdi Iongpiah towards Iawmusiang to collect the Dieñkhlam (consecrated tree) and carried it to their localities.
While the Khonraij (Chiliangraij locality) collected the Khnong Blai (consecrated tree), the ‘Ka Suit Ka Choor’ (a ritual conducted to give offerings to Mother Nature and the Gods) was conducted by the Dolloi and other religious heads using Rice Beer from a dried gourd.
Earlier, a short speech was delivered by the Dolloi of Elaka Jowai, Puramon Kynjing. Wednesday is the last day of the festival that would be held at Aitnar and Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma would grace the occasion.
