Guwahati, May 1: In response to an ongoing heatwave in North India, a primary school in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district has devised an innovative solution to relieve its students. The school’s principal, Vaibhav Rajput, took the initiative to transform a classroom into a refreshing swimming pool, allowing the children to beat the scorching temperatures while continuing their studies.
With temperatures soaring to a blistering 40 degrees Celsius, the extreme weather conditions had caused a significant decline in student attendance. Concerned about the well-being of the students, Rajput decided to take matters into his own hands. By filling a classroom with water, he created a makeshift swimming pool that would offer respite from the heat and maintain a conducive learning environment.
A video circulating online captured the sheer joy of the students as they splashed and played in the two-foot-deep pool. The initiative revitalized attendance and gained recognition from the community for its ingenuity and concern for the students’ comfort.
“The mercury level has been between 38 to 40 degrees Celsius for the past few days. This has drastically reduced the number of children in the school,” Rajput explained. “But after the school classroom was filled with water, children started coming. They are now studying and getting relief from the heat by swimming.”
This creative approach comes when large parts of India are battling an intense heatwave, with some regions experiencing temperatures as high as 45 degrees Celsius. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts, cautioning the public about the persisting extreme heat conditions.
