Three held in Ri Bhoi for smuggling narcotics; drugs worth ₹3.5 lakh seized

Nongpoh, Aug 7: In two separate operations, Ri Bhoi police arrested three individuals on Thursday for their involvement in drug trafficking, seizing significant quantities of heroin and ganja.

In the first case, Sirajul Haque (36), a resident of Barpeta, Assam, was apprehended at Nongpoh with 49.44 grams of heroin concealed in five soap cases. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately ₹3.5 lakhs. Police also confiscated a Scooty (ML10C-4833), a mobile phone, and a bag from his possession.

In a separate operation at Byrnihat, two local residents — Franky Marsing (27) and Shan Sylliang (24) — were arrested for attempting to courier 2.047 kg of ganja to Chennai. The drugs were found hidden inside a vehicle (ML10C-3646).

Both cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are ongoing to identify the broader networks involved in the trafficking operations.
