Tura, June 22: If the summer this year was sweltering for Garo Hills, reaching almost 40 degrees and many hoped for rains to arrive early, but the monsoon this year has arrived with such rage that it has hardly been respite.
Many areas in the Garo Hills regions have been inundated and road communication cut off as rivers have swelled and small streams become gushing rivers. Even the Ganol Hydro project had to open its gate on Thursday due to the heavy downpour.
Here are the details of the trail of devastation induced by the heavy rainfall:
1. Cherangre football field in Tura has become a raging stream after heavy rains on Thursday morning.
2. Rangol Wari causeway that links Edenbari to Tosekgre and other villages across the river is inundated cutting off all road communication due to incessant rains since Thursday morning. It is also a major picnic spot for locals.
3. Ganol Hydel Power Plant Dam releases water after extensive rains on Thursday morning.
