Shillong, April 14: A thunderstorm with heavy rainfall and hailstones hit many villages in Ri Bhoi District on Thursday, damaging several houses and uprooting trees.

According to inputs received, several houses and properties were damaged as well as many big trees were uprooted by the strong winds accompanying the rain.

Areas which were hit by the thunderstorm include Umsning, Bhoirymbong and Umroi.

Also, many vehicles were damaged due to hailstones, and a heavy traffic jam was reported at Shillong Bypass.

However, there were no reports of injuries till the filing of this report.
