Tipra Motha Chief secures key agreements with Tata Group and Tripura government

Must read

Agartala, Mar 15: Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma on Friday stated that the recent agreements with the Tripura government and Tata Group were achieved through negotiation and persistent efforts.

“Nothing comes easily in life. You have to negotiate for everything in the interest of your people. A few months ago, news emerged about the establishment of a private hotel at the historic Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala, sparking serious concerns among the indigenous Tiprasa people. There were doubts regarding the process and rationale behind the palace’s handover. I expressed my deep concerns, and following protests from various socio-political organizations and individuals, the issue was taken seriously by all concerned parties, including the state government and IHCL-Taj (Tata Group),” Debbarma said.

He further revealed that after personally meeting with the Chief Minister of Tripura and senior Tata Group representatives, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed, incorporating terms that respect Tiprasa sentiments while introducing empowerment initiatives.

Key Agreements Reached:

1. Taj Pushpabanta Palace Hotel in Agartala
The heritage building will be restored while retaining its original name.
The history, culture, and traditions of the indigenous Tiprasa people will be prominently displayed to raise awareness among locals and visitors.
Consultation with the Royal Family will ensure accurate representation of history and traditions.
IHCL-Taj (Tata Group) has acknowledged Article III of the Tripura Merger Agreement (9th September 1949), referencing it in the Inventory of Immovable Property of His Highness The Maharaja of Tripura.

2. Hospitality Skill Development Centre of Excellence

To be set up at Khumulwng for Indigenous Tribal Youth in Tripura.
The Tripura Government will allocate ₹13 crore for its development.
Around 200 trained youth will be employed at the Taj Pushpabanta Palace Hotel, while others will get opportunities in Taj properties across India.

3. Upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs)
Seven ITIs under TTAADC will be upgraded through an MoU with Tata Technologies.
A total of 19 ITIs in Tripura will be modernized to establish Centres of Excellence (CoE).
The Tata Group will invest ₹35 crore in each of the seven ITIs under TTAADC, amounting to a total investment of ₹245 crore.
Over 2,000 youth will receive training annually, with placement opportunities in multinational companies (MNCs).

Debbarma emphasized the importance of learning from the past, stating:
“The new generation of Tiprasas must not repeat past mistakes. The Communists tried to erase our rich history, culture, and traditions—by erecting random statues, renaming monuments, and distorting our textbooks. We are not against development, but the sentiments of the indigenous Tiprasas must be respected.

“Development should also take place beyond Agartala, especially in TTAADC areas. The upgradation of ITIs and the Hospitality Skill Development Centre are crucial steps in this direction. We welcome other business groups to take up similar projects in TTAADC areas.”
