TIPRA Motha optimistic over ongoing talks with Centre for Greater Tipraland but keeps poll alliance doors open for BJP and Congress

Agartala, February 14: Opposition party in Tripura, TIPRA Motha, has exuded confidence of a positive outcome over ongoing talks with the central government on the demand for a Greater Tipraland state.

Senior TIPRA Motha leader Animesh Debbarma revealed that their party’s founder, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, is currently in Delhi for discussions aimed at a constitutional solution to the demand for Tipraland.

The opposition leader said that as the talks progress, there is hope for positive developments and emphasized their party’s steadfast demand for Greater Tipraland.

With general elections round the corner and potential alliances key to political parties, Debbarma stated, “If Congress or BJP aligns with our demand, we’ll consider it; otherwise, we’ll decide independently.”

With widespread agitation in the tribal areas of the state to oppose the state government’s decision to use the Bengali script for the Kokborok language, the the party’s student wing, TISF, staged a statewide protest advocating for the use of Roman script alongside Bengali for the Kokborok language.

To resolve the problem and end all confusion, Debbarma urged the state government to adopt both scripts in textbooks and exams in the state.

While expressing hope of a government decision in favor of their demand for the use of the Roman script, the opposition leader also warned of further protests if their demand was not met.

The TIPRA Motha leader also took strong exception to the labeling of protestors as insurgents by a particular police official resulting in a probe ordered by the state Director general of Police.

Following the government’s acceptance of their demands, TISF ended their protest after Monday evening.

The Opposition Leader is demanding the resignation of the president of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education over the issue of the Kokborok language script and warned that in the coming days his party will agitations on various local issues including employment, recruitment of qualified teachers and other issues of public interest.
