Top four winners of 47th Meghalaya State Chess Championship to represent state at the national level

Tura, June 15: The 47th Meghalaya State FIDE-rated Chess Championship concluded on Wednesday. The championship carried significant weight, as the top four contenders have earned the honor of representing Meghalaya in the upcoming national championship.

Silseng N Marak took the first spot in the final ranking, followed by Silkam Sangma, Barbith M Sangma and Bensing G Momin in the second, third and fourth place respectively. 84 chess fanatics took part in the tournament from around the state.

This four day tournament was held from 12th to 15th June was organized by the Garo Hills Chess Association (GHCA) under the aegis of Meghalaya Chess Association, Shillong in collaboration with the District Administration, West Garo Hills, District Sports Office, Tura, and sponsored by Hub News, Simsang Chi, Marak Pavers, Prime Alternative and others.

The tournament was played under the FIDE Laws of Chess and 8 rounds of Swiss System, with the rate of play being 60 minutes and 30 seconds increment from move one.

The four day long tournament was conducted by T. J. Biju Singh as the Chief Arbiter; Arun Singh as Deputy Chief Arbiter and Gulap Gogoi as the Technical Arbiter for the tournament.

Rita Ch Marak, representative of the Nokma of Asanang along with the Chief Arbiter and other dignitaries distributed the Trophies, Certificates and Cash prizes to the winners of the Tournament under different categories on the concluding day.

The 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th position holder’s were Pringprang Ch Marak, Ardhendu Sekhar Mandal, Nityananda Hajong, Marcosh N Marak respectively.

The winner for the under 10 girls was Ansame Ch Marak; under 14 girls was Aesara Ringmitelachi Ch Momin,best under 18 girls Garo Hills was Amaziah Gapesa Marak; best above 18 female Meghalaya was Jasintha Ch Marak; under 14 boys was Mayukh Sah; best under 18 Garo Hills was Arano Rikrim Cheran Momin; and the best youngest player and the S50 veteran went to Eidenson Marwein and Silberth Ch Marak respectively.

The prizes under the category of Best Khasi Hills, Best Jaintia Hills and Best Unrated player went to Anubhav Sharma, Zephaniah R Dkhar and Pynmanroi Suting respectively.
