Shillong, Aug 25: The local residents of Lumshnong, who are also employees of Topcem Cement under the banner of the Topcem Employees Association (TEA), along with the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Narpuh Circle, demanded immediate removal of two non-tribal employees accusing them of being responsible for instigating police action during the protest on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that on Thursday, the East Jaintia Hills police resorted to firing several rounds of tear gas shells and lathi charged the protesters after they attacked the venue in Thangskai village where a public hearing was being held. The protest was against the proposed expansion of M/s Meghalaya Cement Ltd (Topcem).

The Topcem Employees Association has given the management of the company a 24-hour ultimatum to terminate the services of these employees.
