Shillong, Sept 17: The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India (North East), in collaboration with Meghalaya Tourism and Sportive, successfully organised the 2nd Edition of the Mawlynnong Run Safari at Mawlynnong on Saturday (September 16).
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 210 runners, competing in various categories covering distances of 25 kilometres, 10 kilometres, and 5 kilometres.
What made this marathon even more special was the diverse mix of participants. Members of the Yuva Tourism Club, students, doctors, engineers, and even housewives embraced the spirit of the run. Remarkably, the youngest participant, 5-year-old Master Wanmenaki Jeremiah Nongrum, ran alongside his mother, setting an inspiring example of family fitness and participation.
With more than 60 enthusiastic participants, the marathon not only promoted a healthy lifestyle but also served as a platform to strengthen the bonds between India and Bangladesh. It encouraged people-to-people interaction, fostering friendship and cultural exchange.
The event’s highlight was its role in advancing the Ministry of Tourism’s initiative to develop border area tourism and Rural/Village tourism. Participants from regions as diverse as Jammu, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, and Manipur joined hands in this memorable run, showcasing unity in diversity.
The 2nd edition of the Mawlynnong Run Safari not only celebrated fitness and camaraderie but also promoted the scenic beauty and cultural richness of Meghalaya. It stands as a testament to the power of sports and tourism to foster connections and enhance the beauty of our diverse nation.
