Shillong, Oct 16: The Tri Hills Ensemble, a two-day event held at the city’s Soso Tham Auditorium concluded on Saturday with dance performances, folk theatre and live music performed by the three major tribes of Meghalaya
The event witnessed theatrical interpretation of historical figures ranging from the Khasi’s only female freedom fighter Phan Nonglait to the Jaintia’s popular U Kiang Nangbah by Silbi Passah. Traditional dances, namely, Jabolo from Ri Bhoi, Shad Ngoh Krai of Wahkhen and Shad Miet Raid Mawja were also performed along with folk film screenings, photography and music infotainment, highlighting the growth of the state’s culture and traditions over the past 50 years.
Students from various schools of the city took part in competitions organised by the North East Initiative Department Agency and awards to winners were distributed by F R Kharkongor, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).
The Pahambir artisans showcased their gravity defying artistry. A live workshop on modelling and sculpting with black clay, a tradition followed by the villagers of Pahambir was also carried out at the venue.
The two-day event ended with a live music session called ‘Songs of Gold’ alongside monologues of the chronology of the evolution of music in Meghalaya. Maphi and Mana Kharhunai, daughters of the late Rana Kharkongor, a renown singer of the state, performed his song ‘Miet Shai Bnai’ as a tribute to him and the legacy he left behind.
Amongst the seasoned artistes of the state the audience were serenaded by the songs sang by Lamphang Syiemlieh and Summersalt, as the main act, raising the roof with their “Kamai La Ka Hok” and “Mluh” songs.
