Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan arrested, section 144 imposed in Sandeshkhali

Calcutta, Feb 29: TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested by West Bengal Police from the Minakhan area in North 24 Parganas last night.

The Trinamool leader, against whom multiple allegations of land grab and sexual assault have been made by villagers at Sandeshkhali, was sent to 10 days in police custody by a court in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on February 29.

According to Basrihat police sources, section 144 imposed in 23 new places in Sandeshkhali to avoid unrest after the arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan.

The police of Minakha police station filed a case under 11 sections against Sheikh Shahjahan in Nyajat police station and sent it to Basirhat sub-district court.

Speaking to media persons, West Bengal Governor C V. Ananda Bose said that “There will be light at the end of the tunnel. That is democracy, we weighted. Let’s hope now new dawn of lawfulness, will come back to Bengal”.
