Agartala, Mar 20: Security forces seized 70,000 Yaba tablets valued Rs 3.5 crore in Tripura’s Sepahijala district during a raid on Tuesday.
The person from whose resident the contraband were seized has been identified as- Idrish Mia, resident of Sobhapur in Sepahijala.
“After getting specific intelligence inputs regarding the storage of Yaba tablets, a joint operation was conducted by BSF and Sonamura Police Station, Sepahijala in the residence of one Idrish Mia.
Upon reaching the location, the team conducted a thorough search of a Maruti Suzuki XL-6 parked inside the house.
The search resulted in the discovery of 70,000 Yaba Tablets valued at Rs 3.5 Crore,” said a police official.
Additionally, Indian Currency totaling Rs 2,23,800/- (consisting of denominations of 500×330, 200×197, and 100×194) was seized, along with the vehicle valued at Rs. 8,00,000/-. The total seizure amounted to Rs. 3,60,23,800/-. However, no suspects were apprehended as they had fled before the team arrived.
The seized items have been handed over to the police, and a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered by Sonamura Police Station against the owner of the residence. Further investigation is underway.
