Agartala, Aug 21: Assam Rifles have deployed its troops for relief and rescue operations amidst incessant rains in Tripura.
Incessant rains in Tripura for over 72 hours have resulted in inundation of large areas of the state, and death of atleast 7 people.
Responding to the request by civil administration, Assam Rifles immediately deployed two columns for Flood Relief operations on the night of August 20th in the areas of East Kanchanbari, Kumarghat, Unakoti district and Karbook and Amarpur of Gomati district.
Six rivers, namely Haora, Karki, Dhalai, Manu, Muhuri and Gomti rivers are flowing above the danger mark. Heavy rains were witnessed at the upper catchment areas as well.
Assam Rifles launched the rescue operations as hundreds of homes have been flooded due to incessant rains in the state.
5,607 families have been shifted to 183 relief camps in wake of deteriorating situation due to rise in water levels of rivers.
Assam Rifles columns are working in close coordination with civil administration to rescue civilians stranded due to floods.
