Agartala, Feb 8: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday launched skill development initiative aimed at training over 80,000 students, including 75,000 school-going girls and 7,000 college students, under the “Skill-Uday Tongnai” programme.
Through this programme the government plans to empower rural women through technology-driven agricultural intervention, making Tripura one of the first states in India to produce ‘Drone Didis’- women trained in drone operations for agricultural use.
Saha said the state government is commitment to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering women through skill development.
He highlighted that the training of female members of self-help groups (SHGs) in drone technology for agriculture.
“Some people have already received training and been certified. We have two master trainers—an associate professor and an assistant professor—who are leading the initiative. I have instructed the department to increase the number of trainers and trainees so that Tripura can become the first state to implement the ‘Drone Didi’ model,” CM Saha said.
This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation Academy (NSDC Academy) to enhance students’ employability.
