Tripura: CM Manik Saha announces financial aid of Rs 242.55 cr for violence hit Gandatwisa

Agartala, Aug 5: Tripura chief minister Manik Saha on Sunday visited violence hit Gandatwisa in Dhalai district and met with the people and assured of all help. Saha announced a financial assistance of Rs 242.55 crore for the development of Gandatwisa in Dhalai.

Along with chief minister, chief secretary JK Sinha, DGP Amitabh Ranjan, Home Secretary Pradip Chakraborty and other senior officials visited Gandatwisa.

The officials visited the house of deceased tribal student Parameshwar Reang and met with the families living in temporary shelters.

The team also inspected the houses and shops which were looted and gutted on July 12, following the tragic death of Parameshwar.

Saha said the government has decided to provide an additional Rs 4 lakh to Reang’s family, besides the Rs 6 lakh already given to them.

CM Manik Saha said 101 families were severely affected and Rs 95,000 had already been transferred to each of their accounts, with an additional Rs 2.05 lakh to be provided soon.

“As many as 145 families were affected, with Rs 1.14 crore already disbursed. An additional Rs 2.30 crore will be provided,” Saha said.

Saha said, “We want peaceful coexistence among the people. Without peace, no one can move forward. The police will look into those who conspired to disturb peace.”

The government’s intervention is expected to help the community rebuild and recover from the recent turmoil.

Meantime, some local public who are also victims of the violence expressed their anger for not being allowing to meet the CM and speak about their suffering.

Congress recently targeted the BJP over “state-sponsored violence” in Tripura ahead of the panchayat polls, alleging that the state was treading down a “distressing path, echoing the turmoil witnessed in Manipur.
