Tripura: Despite heavy security, 4 Bangladeshis manage to sneak into India

Must read

Agartala, Aug 12: Despite the strict vigil at the border with Bangladesh, four Bangladeshi nationals managed to sneak into India at the Tripura sector and were later arrested by the police in Agartala on Sunday.

It’s unclear how and when these Bangladeshi citizens managed to outwit the heavy security deployed at the border and the Tripura police are interrogating the infiltrators to find out more.

The arrested Bangladeshis citizens have been identified as Abdul Kalam, Kamrul Jaman, Nabir Hussam, and Md Jubayer, all hailing from Chapai Nawabganj district in Bangladesh.

All four, after sneaking through the border, were found loitering in a suspicious manner at Nandannagar Quarter Chowmuhani, located at the outskirts of Agartala, the police said.

Inspector Sushanta Deb, the officer-in-charge of New Capital Complex police station, said the police received information about the presence of four unidentified individuals loitering in the area. When a police team confronted the four Bangladeshi citizens, they claimed to be Indians, but after thorough questioning, they admitted to being citizens of Bangladesh.

All four have been charged for illegally entering India without valid passports and other legal documents. After registering a formal case they are set to be produced in court and the police would seek their custody to uncover more details about their entry and modus operandi.

The arrest of these four Bangladeshi citizens raises serious question marks on the security forces guarding the border. The security forces have been put on high alert to foil exactly such infiltration along the 856 Km border that Tripura shares with Bangladesh.

On the other hand, the Border Security Force (BSF) has claimed to have intensified surveillance and patrolling in the region, due to the unrest in Bangladesh over the past two weeks.
