Agartala, June 11: Officials on Saturday said that five Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested from the Bengaluru-bound Humsafar Express at Tripura’s Dharmanagar railway station.
According to Tripura police officials, the arrested Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Shafiqul Islam, Rozina Begum, Rafiqul Islam, Shahab Ali Sheikh and Mumtaz Aqtar.
Police Official also said that after they received a tip that some suspected Bangladeshi nationals were about board the Agartala-Bengaluru Humsafar Express, they conducted a search operation on the train along with officials of the Government Railway Police and Border Security Force.
It was during the joint search that officials noticed some suspected persons and soon detained them.
Police official said that it was during the interrogation that they confessed to being the residents of Bangladesh.
The five Bangladeshi residents admitted that they crossed the international border through the Amtali area of Bangladesh.
They also confessed that they have paid Rs 20,000 each to Rafiqul for being taken to Bengaluru.
Police official said a case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
In a similar case, five Rohingyas were arrested on May 16 from the same railway station after they illegally crossed the India-Bangla international border and tried to board a train in an attempt to reach Jammu.
