Tripura: Four arrested with contraband at Agartala railway station

Agartala, Aug 25: The Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended four persons at the Agartala railway station in connection with smuggling of banned cough syrup, said Sanjit Sen, the officer in-charge of Agartala GR police station, on Friday.

The suspects were found in possession of 788 bottles of prohibited contraband cough syrup. The successful operation was a joint effort between GRP’s team and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the covert transportation of contraband items aboard the Kanchanjunga Express, the law enforcement team meticulously monitored the unloading of cargo from the train’s compartments. During a thorough search, it was unveiled that the banned Eskuff cough syrup bottles had been discreetly concealed within packages seemingly containing light bulbs.

The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Gautam Das, Babul Debnath, Tapan Das, and Rakesh Saha. Following preliminary interrogation, the GRP has presented the detainees before the court, seeking police remand.

A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against them.
