Tripura, Oct 7: A team of Tripura police on Friday arrested journalist Saikat Talapatra from West Bengal’s Sodepur in North 24 Paragana district on charges of maligning Tripura chief minister Manik Saha and many other politicians through his online channels.

There are several cases filed against Talapatra in many police stations in Tripura.

Police said Talapatra was arrested from a rented house at Muragachha area of Sodepur and brought to Agartala by flight.

Through his YouTube and Facebook channels during the past few years, Talapatra also maligned former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Tipra Motha Party’s (TMP) supremo Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman, Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman and many other politicians.

Tripura police teams on a number of occasions since 2021 went to Kolkata to arrest him but Talapatra dodged them and continued to slander the state politicians on a regular basis.
