Tripura man sentenced 20 years for raping minor

Agartala, Mar 7: Tripura man sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment after Kamalpur court in Dhalai district finds him guilty of raping a minor girl.

The court also imposed a fine of ₹10,000, and in case of non-payment, the convict will have to serve an additional six months in jail.

According to reports, on September 7, 2022, the accused Chandan Mali, a resident if Kamalpur forcibly entered a neighbouring house where the minor girl was alone. He strangled and raped the girl.

After hearing her daughter’s scream, the victim’s mother who was nearby rushed home and saw Chandan Mali fleeing from the house.

Following the incident, the family member registered a case at Kamalpur police station. A case no 50/2022 under IPC section 447, 376AB, 323, 307, and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

Woman Sub-Inspector Pompi Nath led the investigation, during which statements from 24 witnesses were recorded, and a charge sheet was submitted to the court.

After the trial, Additional District and Sessions Judge & Special Judge Samyabikash Das convicted Chandan Mali on March 5, 2025.
