Agartala, April 7: A Tripura court has convicted a man and sentenced him to 20 years of imprisonment for raping a minor tribal girl.

According to reports, the incident took place two years ago, shortly before Lakshmi Puja, when the minor survivor had gone alone to a nearby forest in her village in the Gomati district to gather ingredients for preparing traditional food.

The accused took advantage of her solitude and sexually assaulted her. He then threatened her with death to prevent her from speaking out.
