Must read

Agartala, July 20: In a poignant return to his alma mater, Dr Kanaknarayan Bhattacharjee, a distinguished doctor at Agartala Government Hospital, led a historic and complex heart surgery at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) hospital in Imphal.

This extraordinary collaboration between government doctors from Tripura and Manipur resulted in a rare and successful medical achievement.

“Indeed, it was an honour and an emotional experience for me to lead the team and be invited by RIMS, my alma mater, after 23 years for such a noble cause,” Dr Bhattacharjee remarked. On July 11, 2024, the dedicated team performed two open-heart surgeries on two young boys from Manipur, both born with congenital heart diseases, in a single day at RIMS’s sophisticated new Cardiac OT complex.

“Our AGMC cardiac anaesthetist Dr. Monimoy Debbarma, perfusionist Sujan Sahu, and surgical assistant Sudipta Mondal performed their roles splendidly and also trained others,” Bhattacharjee added. “This was a wonderful opportunity to give back to the institution that nurtured us and to facilitate the exchange of medical expertise between Tripura and Manipur.”

This historic collaboration not only highlights the exceptional skills and dedication of the medical professionals involved but also underscores the potential for inter-state cooperation in advancing healthcare.
