Agartala, June 22: Two individuals, one from Iran and the other from Bangladesh, have been apprehended by the Tripura police at Amatoli police station in Agartala. The arrests took place close to Bangladesh border in the Aswani market area on the outskirts of Agartala on Wednesday.
Pintu Biswas, Sub Inspector (SI) of Amtali police station, stated that based on secret information about two unidentified persons in the Aswani market area, a mobile patrol team was dispatched. Upon inquiry, one of them identified himself as Bangladeshi and the other as Iranian.
He added that no valid travel documents were found in their possession, and they were brought to the police station. A mobile phone was confiscated from them.
An FIR has been filed against them, and they will be produced in court on Thursday, the officer added.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Yakub Yazdanbakhsh, an Iranian resident, and Shahin Mondal from Bangladesh.
When asked about reports of locals of Aswani market finding photos of Pakistani militant camps on the confiscated mobile phone of the arrested persons, the police official stated that both individuals are currently being questioned, and further information will be released after the interrogation.
