A district administration official said that while the BDO Vaijayanta Sarkar along with other officials went to Madhabnagar Gram Panchayat to conduct a special camp to finalise the names of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), around 50 to 60 people with sticks and other pointy items attacked the officials, severely injuring the BDO and nine other officials while many officials fled due the attack.

The police personnel led by Officer-in-Charge of the concerned police outpost tried to protect the officials but the attackers, stated to be associated with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, overpowered the security personnel.
