Agartala, Aug 21: Tripura Police apprehended three persons with brown sugar worth Rs 10 crore.
The arrest and seizure of the drugs were made in the wee hours of Monday, (August 21) at Churaibari in the North District of Tripura, near the Assam border.
The seized heroine was concealed within 100 soap cases hidden in secret chamber in a Tata Sumo vehicle bearing registration number MN-01-AK-3139 that entered Tripura from neighbouring Assam.
The three arrested persons have been identified as Prasenjit Das, Abdul Ali, and Shaymal Krishna Das.
Also, all three arrested persons are residents of Tripura’s Sepahijala district.
During a press conference, Bhanupada Chakraborty, SP of North District in Tripura, said that it was due to vital intelligence that police were able to arrest drug traffickers and seize drugs.
The North District Police have taken charge of the inquiry into the incident under NDPS Act.
As part of a determined effort to eliminate drug-related issues within Tripura, the state’s police force has initiated a specialised campaign, establishing multiple police checkpoints along the national highway. This comprehensive initiative stretches from Chauraibari, the entry point from Assam, to Sabroom, the terminal border point shared with Bangladesh.
