Must read

Agartala, Jan 12: In a major crackdown, Tripura Police seized 1.24 lakh methamphetamine tablets (commonly known as Yaba), valued at approximately ₹1 crore, and arrested two individuals in the state capital on Sunday.

The arrested individuals were identified as truck driver Jamal Hussain (43) and his assistant Mintu Baman (33). The seized consignment, smuggled from Myanmar, was reportedly en route to Bangladesh.

According to a police officer, the methamphetamine tablets were concealed in a cement-laden truck intercepted while traveling from Meghalaya to the border town of Sonamura in Sepahijala district.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Officials are interrogating the suspects to uncover more details about the drug smuggling network.

The seizure comes just two days after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted search operations across multiple locations in Tripura under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The raids targeted inter-state drug cartels involved in trafficking narcotics such as ganja and phensidyl.
