Agartala, Aug 26: Tripura Government has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of BNSS in the Jirania Sub-division of West Tripura District till August 28, following outbreak of communal tension in Durganagar village.
The tension erupted after an idol of Goddess Kali was found defaced in a local temple on Sunday night, leading to violent clashes between two communities.
According to Tripura police, a group of miscreants entered Durganagar village in Jirania Sub-division and vandalized several houses, setting them on fire in retaliation for the damaged idol. At least 12 houses and multiple vehicles were set ablaze by unidentified individuals in the nearby Ranirbazar area.
In response to the violence, heavy security forces have been deployed across the affected areas, bringing the situation is under control.
