Agartala, March 16: Tripura Police on Wednesday arrested a man after a video of him dragging a puppy through the streets tied to a vehicle went viral on social media.

The animal died as a result of the assault.

The viral video showed the right rear limb of the puppy tied to the vehicle that was being driven on Agartala-Sabroom extension of National Highway-8 at high speed.

The accused was identified as Subrata Nama, 45, a resident of Satchand village in Manubazaar of South Tripura.

Following the video going viral, Police arrested the accused and charged him with Sections 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and produced before a local court.

He was later released on bail.

Pawsome, an animal rights group, flagged the issue after a social media user uploaded the video.
