Tripura ranks fourth among Himalayan states in exports: MoS Anupriya Patel

Agartala, Sept 14: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Anupriya Patel, highlighted Tripura’s significant growth in exports, ranking fourth among the Himalayan states.

She said this on Wednesday during her two-day visit to Tripura, which focused on reviewing the implementation of various developmental initiatives and schemes of the Union government in Sepahijala district.

Minister Patel engaged in extensive discussions with Nabadal Banik, chairman of Tripura Industry Development Corporation, Sepahijala District Magistrate Vishal Kumar, MLA Tafajjal Hossain, and senior officials from various departments.

The discussions revolved around ongoing projects for industrial development and exploring trade opportunities with Bangladesh, which surrounds Tripura on three sides.

The MoS pledged her department’s commitment to promote trade with the neighbouring country and claimed a comprehensive strategy and committed financial support for infrastructure development, including border haats, special economic zones, unity malls, and land customs facilities, all aimed at facilitating cross-border trade and fostering economic growth.

Furthermore, she shared that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is actively working to boost rubber plantation in the North East region, with a target to cover two lakh hectares under rubber plantation.

Her visit also included inspections of a rubber plantation and a proposed tire factory site in Sepahijala, along with the industrial park at RK Nagar in West Tripura district.
