Agartala, Aug 21: Tripura has been reeling under incessant rainfall for last two days and situation has become grim after flooding of several places.
According to official reports, Tripura has received over 1200 percent more rain than normal in last 24 hours, which has caused flood in the state.
Some of the most significant rainfall has been recorded in Bagafa, South Tripura (375.8mm), Belonia, South Tripura (324.4mm), and Amarpur, Gomati (307.1mm).
Speaking to Hub News, Dayanand Singh said, “I have not seen such flood in my lifetime. Everybody has been affected in the flood. Most of the people living in the locality are daily wage earners and they are facing the worst situation after flood water has entered in their homes. So much of water everywhere, no place is left where flood water has not entered.”
“Relief camps have been set up in our locality but relief materials are not being given in adequate manner,” he added.
A person, who was seen taking shelter inside his vehicle with his family, said his house has been inundated in the recent wave of flood. “For last two days, I have taken shelter in the vehicle with my family. We have no other alternative because most of the areas have been inundated due to the flood,” said the daily-wage earner.
A total of 183 relief camps have been set-up across the state to accommodate the displaced families, with the largest number of camps set up in Gomati (68), followed by Khowai (39), and South Tripura (30).
These camps are equipped with essential facilities such as food, drinking water, and medical care, and the situation is being closely monitored by District Magistrates at the local level and by the Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management) and Chief Secretary at the state level.
The ongoing heavy rainfall has also caused landslides in several areas, leading to road blockages due to fallen trees.
At least seven lives have been lost in the flood in Tripura. Two others are reported missing. Rescue operations have been launched to trace the missing persons.
The floods, triggered by incessant rainfall, have also led to the evacuation of over 5,600 families who are now seeking refuge in 183 temporary relief shelters across the state.
NDRF and SDRF have been pressed into service to rescue people from flood affected areas.
