Agartala, Feb 15: Sacked teachers of Tripura on Monday staged a protest rally in front of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala against the police atrocity on the teachers.
The teachers holding posters and banners protested against the police atrocity.
About 10323 teachers of Tripura had lost their jobs in March last year after the Supreme Court termed their recruitment process faulty.
The sacked teachers have been camping in Agartala since December 7 last year, demanding the state government to provide them with employment.
The police forcefully removed these protesting teachers from their site of protest on the morning on January 27.
When these teachers reached the official residence of the chief minister to express their anger and grief, the police resorted to lathi-charge and use of water cannons to disperse them.
More than 70 teachers were injured in the incident.
“Teachers who had sustained injuries during the police attack were taken to the hospital. However, BJP MLA Dilip Das, who is a doctor, pressurized other doctors to release the injured teachers, which was inhuman,” said Dalia Das who is leading the teachers’ protest.
