Must read

Agartala, Aug 13: An attempt by some people to cross over into Tripura from Bangladesh was thwarted by Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday after they fire a round of non-lethal ammunition.

According to reports, a group of 12-15 people tried to infiltrate into Tripura’s Khowai district by taking advantage of rains and poor visibility.

In the Northeast, the Tripura sector of the border is believed to be most vulnerable to illegal migration.

Four states in the Northeast – Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram – share border with Bangladesh. They all have heightened security in the border areas in the wake of the civil unrest in the neighbouring country.

Four Bangladeshi nationals had managed to sneak into India at the Tripura sector and were later arrested by the police in Agartala on Sunday.

After Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League was toppled in Bangladesh, the people of Bangladesh have been trying to enter India but strict vigil by security forces have prevented them from entering Indian territory.
