Agartala, Aug 8: In a noteworthy development, the North Tripura police apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals in the border town of Dharmanagar on Monday. The arrested individuals, comprising two men, two women, and three children, were taken into custody.
These individuals, who had previously been residing illegally in Bengaluru, Karnataka, since 2020 without valid documentation, were making an attempt to return to Bangladesh by crossing the border when they were detained in Tripura said police.
The group had arrived from Bengaluru on the Ham Safar Express and had been in the vicinity of Rajbati railway station, making arrangements for their journey back to Bangladesh, when the police took them into custody.
Among those arrested were Mohammad Liton Sheikh (35), Fatema Begum (28), along with their two children, Nurul Amin and Nur Mohammad, who hailed from Ratodanga, Bangladesh. Additionally, Mohammad Mamun Rashid (21), Azija Begum (19), along with their child Yasmin Begum, who were residents of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, were also apprehended.
It was reported that the group had entered India illegally in 2020 and had been residing in Bengaluru for an extended period, primarily for employment reasons. However, as they attempted to return to Bangladesh via Kailashahar, they were detained by the police.
The arrested individuals were subsequently taken to Dharmanagar police station, where ongoing legal proceedings are being conducted.
The police have registered a case against them under the Passport Act, and the group is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
