Agartala, Oct 30: The Tripura State Rifles (TSR), an elite counter-insurgency unit, will be deployed for security duties in the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections.
As part of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), TSR will assist in maintaining security during polling for the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, scheduled in two phases on November 13 and 20, with vote counting on November 23.
“At the request of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), six TSR companies, consisting of 480 to 500 personnel, will be sent to Jharkhand to ensure security before and during the voting phases on November 13 and 20,” an official stated.
Previously, TSR units provided election security during the Lok Sabha elections held from April 19 to June 1 in Maharashtra, Bihar, Odisha, and Himachal Pradesh. The TSR also contributed to security at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, and their India Reserve (IR) battalions have routinely supported election security across multiple states.
