Agartala, May 12: Tripura Police have arrested two individuals from separate locations for circulating social media posts deemed anti-national.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shafik Ali, a resident of Tarapur under the Fatikroy Police Station, and Abdul Salam from East Fulbari.
According to officials, Shafik Ali posted a provocative message on social media urging Pakistan to wipe India off the global map. In a separate incident, Abdul Salam allegedly targeted the Border Security Force (BSF) in his online post.
Following a formal complaint, police registered a case against Ali under Sections 152, 197, and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and took him into custody from his residence. Salam was arrested under Sections 196, 352, and 253 of the BNS and produced before the court.
In light of these incidents, the police have issued a public appeal, urging citizens to avoid sharing sensitive or inflammatory content on social media that could hurt public sentiment or demoralise the Indian armed forces.
A senior police official confirmed that a wider crackdown is underway against individuals spreading anti-national content online, particularly posts expressing support for Pakistan or attempting to undermine national security.
“We are closely monitoring digital platforms and taking strong action against those spreading content that threatens the unity and integrity of the nation,” the official added.
